Selection guide

How to choose a solenoid for an OEM product

Solenoid selection is not only about size or voltage. Force, stroke, duty cycle, heat, mounting, lifecycle, and production context must be reviewed together.

Selection Checklist

  • Required motion: push, pull, rotary, latching, or custom assembly
  • Available voltage and drive circuit
  • Stroke or rotation angle
  • Required force or torque at the working position
  • Duty cycle, on-time, off-time, and ambient temperature
  • Available installation space and mounting method
  • Operating environment: dust, moisture, vibration, temperature
  • Lifecycle requirement and expected actuation frequency
  • Connector, lead wire, and routing constraints
  • Prototype quantity, production quantity, annual volume, and target cost

Standard Product or Custom?

Use a standard product when the available size, stroke, voltage, force, and duty cycle match the product requirement. Use a custom solenoid when packaging, mounting, coil behavior, noise, lifecycle, or production needs cannot be met by a catalog part.

If you are unsure, send the product function and constraints. The engineering review can help narrow down the correct solenoid type.
